How to Play Commonality

Goal: Each puzzle contains a small group of hidden words — usually three to six. All of them share something in common. Uncover all of the words in as few guesses as possible. Use the clue in the green box at the top to help you guess the words. The commonality is revealed when you finish!

The grid starts blank. You don't know where the words are. Guess letters to reveal the locations of the words. Each word will share at least one letter with at least one other word.

Letter Mode (default): Tap a letter on the keyboard, and then tap CHECK. If any of the words include that letter, the letter is revealed everywhere it appears in the words. Costs one guess, whether or not the letter is present.

Solve Mode: Once you have a good idea everywhere a particular letter is on the grid, tap the letter, tap each square where you think it belongs, and then tap CHECK. Get every square exactly right and you are not charged a guess! Miss even one square and it costs one guess. The board then resets so you can choose your next move.

Hints: You can choose one or two hints by tapping the H button. Using each type of hint will add a number of guesses to your total.

Tip: Start with common vowels — they'll reveal the shape of the words quickly!
